Introducing SPEED ZONE: A New Way to Train Speed at SPECTRUM
Speed has always been a major part of what we do at SPECTRUM. Whether we’re working with a young developing athlete, a high school player preparing for their season, or a professional getting ready for the next level, the ability to accelerate, reach higher speeds, and move efficiently can change performance.
Beginning October 5th, we’re taking our speed development another step forward with the launch of SPEED ZONE — SPECTRUM’s first dedicated speed training class.
What Is SPEED ZONE?
SPEED ZONE is a small-group training class built specifically around developing faster athletes.
Unlike our traditional Sports Performance training, where speed is one component of a complete training program, SPEED ZONE puts speed at the center of the session.
Athletes will train the qualities that contribute to running faster — acceleration, sprint mechanics, force production, stride frequency, conditioning, and ultimately the ability to produce and maintain greater speeds.
And we’re bringing in an entirely new training platform to help us do it.
Introducing ZTreadZ
At the center of SPEED ZONE will be ZTreadZ, a high-performance speed training platform developed specifically for athletes.
This is not a traditional treadmill.
ZTreadZ combines specialized equipment with a progressive training methodology developed from more than 25 years of experience and research in high-performance speed training.
The platform allows us to manipulate variables that are difficult to reproduce with conventional sprint training alone.
We can use incline, resistance, assistance, speed, direction, duration, and precisely controlled workloads to create specific adaptations for the athlete.
That gives our coaches another tool for teaching athletes how to apply force, improve running mechanics, increase turnover, develop acceleration, and experience speeds they may not normally reach on their own.
Every Athlete. Tested Every Day.
Every SPEED ZONE session will begin with a Fly 20+10.
That sprint gives us an objective measure of the athlete’s speed that day.
Their result isn’t simply recorded and forgotten. It determines their training.
The athlete’s Fly 20+10 time is used to customize their ZTreadZ program for that day’s session. Instead of every athlete in the class running the same speeds and completing the exact same workout, training is prescribed relative to the individual athlete’s current performance.
That means two athletes standing next to each other may be completing the same type of training but at completely different speeds based on their individual abilities.
It’s group training with individualized speed prescription.
It also gives us something incredibly valuable: consistent data.
Rather than testing an athlete once at the beginning and once at the end, we’re collecting speed data every time they train. Over the four-week block, we can see how an athlete is progressing while simultaneously using that information to guide their training.
Speed Training With a Purpose
We don’t believe simply running more makes an athlete faster.
Speed is a skill.
It has to be taught, trained, progressed, and measured.
SPEED ZONE will combine the ZTreadZ system with SPECTRUM’s existing approach to sprint development, giving athletes exposure to both ground-based sprint training and specialized ZTreadZ training.
Depending on the athlete and the training phase, sessions can emphasize acceleration, maximum velocity, resisted sprinting, assisted running, incline work, sprint mechanics, or speed-specific conditioning.
The goal isn’t to make athletes better at running on a treadmill.
The goal is to make them faster when they step onto the field, court, track, or pitch.
Four Weeks. Eight Dedicated Speed Sessions.
SPEED ZONE will be offered as an, 8-week training block, with athletes training twice per week.
Athletes can choose Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday, with classes offered at:
3:00 PM | 4:00 PM [Ages 14+]
5:00 PM | 6:00 PM [Ages 8-13]
Specific age groups will be assigned to each training time so athletes are training alongside others at an appropriate developmental level.
The cost for the eight-week SPEED ZONE block is two, monthly payments of $195.
A New Way to Get Faster
For more than 20 years, SPECTRUM has continued to evolve how we prepare athletes.
New technology is valuable, but only when there is a methodology behind it.
That’s what excites us about SPEED ZONE.
We’re combining new technology, objective daily testing, individualized programming, and SPECTRUM’s established approach to athlete development into one dedicated speed training experience.
Speed Zone launches September 28.
8 sessions. 4 weeks. 2 days per week.
