Orlando, Fl – December 8, 2014. We are excited to announce some of our latest decisions inside the SSP Performance Center. After the recent claims on the rubber tire infill of turf, we began an extensive search to find the best training surface for athletes, while fulfilling an environmental friendly need and ensuring that we provide a safe training center. During our research, we reached out to our partners at Nike and found out about their Nike Grind & Reuse Shoe Program. Yes, they recycle shoes, grind them up and make flooring.
NIKE GRIND
Nike Grind is a premium-grade raw material resulting from the recycling of athletic shoes collected through the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program and from the recycling of scrap materials left over from the manufacture of Nike footwear. Nike Grind is used in the design, build and install of synthetic and hardwood courts, gym and weight room flooring, synthetic turf infill, running tracks, children’s playgrounds and even home and commercial carpet cushion.
Over the past 20 years Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe and Nike Grind Programs have been collecting worn out shoes bound for the landfill and along with pre-consumer waste, turned this into sport courts and other products.
SSP WORKS WITH ACE SURFACES
Nike has partnered with market-leading sports surface providers such as Ace Surfaces which utilize these materials to create sustainable, high-quality, high-performance sports surfaces. We use this material for our Grand-Slam, Air and Eco, Pro, Impact and products. Not only are these products better for the environment and your body, but they are also more cost effective.
THE TURF – FIFA APPROVED
SSP will be installing LigaTurf RS+, which has won the most FIFA Recommended 2 Star awards worldwide and has been improved even further by a new filament cross-section in conjunction with a new raw material formulation. As a result, this has made it possible to further enhance the rebound properties of LigaTurf RS+. A direct consequence of this is more natural ball rolling behaviour and easier maintenance of the synthetic turf. As is the case with all Polytan football turf systems, the new raw material formulation is also environmentally friendly and completely harmless in ecotoxicological terms.
THE COURT – FIBA APPROVED
SSP didn’t neglect our court sport athletes. We will be installing the highly respected Haro flooring. HARO sports parquet has been approved for first-level competition and is used at Olympic Games and World Cups! The hardwoods Canadian Maple, Beech, Ash and Oak have proved to be ideal for the production of sports parquet. The factory grading displays the natural diversity of the wood’s colour and texture, thus giving an unique and resistant look – the perfect choice for sports and multi-purpose applications.
WEIGHTROOM
We will be using a rubber flooring from Everlast Flooring that will be made from the same Nike Grind with in-ground platforms.
